TASK: Inventory artifacts in collection storage and on exhibit for digitization project.
The Graduate Research Assistants and an Intern were to inventory approximately 9,000 artifacts as a team. Out of these artifacts, 1,000 would be chosen to be further researched and photographed for digitization, making artifacts available to the public online.
Over the 667 hours during the 2023 calendar year, I handled 1,211 artifacts and their records, which equates to an artifact and/or record every 33 minutes.
Inventory included adding or updating a description, condition reports, measurements, new photos, associated people or events, and a list of search terms, among other fields of entry, using ReDiscovery. Another task was to label if the objects had old catalog numbers compared to the electronic record or if they were not labeled.
